Vision Three - A Plan
Should I be blessed to proceed through the ranks of the Kiwanis
International officer positions, during the year I would serve
as your International President, a concerted effort would
be focused on furthering a deeper appreciation of who we are.
Although the specific direction of the organization in 2007-08
is to be determined by the groups mentioned in the first vision
letter sent in April, the following are some of the things
that will happen:
Our humanitarian focus is more than a message, it is a cause.
We will promote that cause:
" I will walk the walk - To promote humanitarian efforts
I will do a 10-mile/kilometer fundraiser for a district effort
at each convention/conference I attend. This may require arriving
a day early to help raise funds. We will promote Governor's
helping divisions and Lt. Governor's helping clubs. I will
start at the San Antonio Convention of 2007 for a Texas-Oklahoma
cause right after that convention. A final 10-mile walk will
occur just prior to the Orlando Convention to raise money
for district causes where I had not had the fortune to attend
a conference or convention during the span of that year.
" We will educate members on our humanitarian focus,
starting with the 2007-08 Class of Governors and District
Secretaries so that they can help promote it in their districts.
Our convention will be a celebration of service:
" Awards will be presented to Governors at the Orlando
Convention for raising funds for district humanitarian and
International Foundation causes. There will be 3 categories
(small, medium and large districts), and 3 awards per category
- most money raised, most money per capita, and most money
per capita for the International Foundation.
" The faces of those we serve will be a highlight of
the Orlando Convention. We will also focus that gathering
on our International Convention Strategic Plan (which will
be developed by then).
We will have a strong focus on communication:
" I will communicate through every 2007-08 KI Magazine,
and portray on the first issue's cover, that a series of letters
will follow in each issue that focus on what makes us unique
as humanitarians.
" The same message will be promoted at each district
function I attend.
" The message sent with trustees that year will also
focus on our nature to uplift our organization.
" A personal letter will be sent to all incoming club
presidents with an invitation to the Orlando Convention and
promotion of a special session and pin for their attendance.
But more important, giving them the opportunity to be part
of a cause. Governors, Secretaries, and Lieutenant Governors
will be encouraged to attend. Will we get a huge increase
in attendance? I don't know, but we'll get some. The year
I served as Governor of the Montana District we doubled convention
attendance.
We will create a team environment:
" Build teams with the 2007-08 Class of Governors &
District Secretaries (both will attend the training session)
and encourage that same unity within the District Leadership
and with District Foundations.
" Seek International Board, Advisory Committee, District
Leadership, and Executive Staff consensus.
" Promote collaborative efforts with other organizations
and foundations (strategic philanthropy), including personal
involvement with the Priority One Advisory Council in Washington,
DC.
" Promote collaborative efforts with all our sponsored
youth programs.
We will promote innovation:
" Internet Clubs
" Kiwanis Family Clubs
" New Growth Ideas, although some growth will be a natural
result of our renewed spirit.
" Your Ideas Here!
