Vision One - A Team - A Plan

A critical success factor in any endeavor is putting a team together. A concept letter sent last year addressed the value of a leadership team focused on organizational improvements and armed with a plan that wells up the camaraderie and synergy necessary to make it happen. Although what was referred to was done at the district level, envision the same camaraderie and synergy in a team working for you at the international level.

I believe quite strongly that "no person is an island". The organization is best served if the direction is not set by an individual, but by a team. The reasons are simple. Just as many hands make light work, many minds generate great ideas. If individuals are given the opportunity to have input into and to enact a plan, the chances for success are increased in both buy-in and accomplishment. I have had the opportunity to attend a number of district conventions or mid-year conferences, meeting Kiwanians in each of those districts that have the right combination of district respect and spirit to be part of a presidential advisory and steering committee. Such a committee will be formed to create the direction for the 2007-2008 administrative year. Those individuals will follow that work with International Committee Chair assignments so that the organizational direction is represented in each committee. This direction will include, or be validated by, representatives from all areas (The European Federation, America's, ASPAC, etc.) so that recommendations represent the whole organization. Committee work will center on:
· Recommendations for enhancements to the existing Kiwanis International Strategic Plan to be submitted to the International Board for consideration, followed by an implementation plan for clubs and districts.
· A plan to promote - encourage - enable - celebrate our humanitarian nature. In essence, educate club members on how our humanitarian focus it is the lifeblood of our organization at all levels.

The committee would begin its work this summer, but there are three other key groups. The International Board plays an obviously pivotal role in determining organizational direction. Next, successful international efforts in this organization are implemented through districts. As leaders, the class of Governors for 2007-2008 will play a critical role in any implementation. Lastly, groups must be in sync with Kiwanis International headquarters and staff, who play a crucial role in administrative support. Any plan without their involvement is doomed to fail. With the Advisory Committee, these are the four wheels of the vehicle that will take our organization forward as a cohesive group to implement the strategic plan. The plan would include recognition and rewards for the 2007-2008 class of Governors based on efforts and accomplishments toward the implementation goals created by the committee.

Action plan summary:

Kiwanis International Officers & Executive Staff will also review recommendations for feasibility.
